Reawaken Your Publishing Dreams with eBooks!

The Growing  Market for eBooks

An article in the 2009 edition of the International Journal of the book places compares the adoption of eBooks to where printed books were about the time Columbus discovered America. Nonetheless between 2002 and 2008, the sale of e-books grew at a compound annual rate of 58%, compared to 1.6% for the overall book industry. In the last two years, e-book growth has accelerated. In July 2009 the most recent report by the Association of American Publishers, shows sales increased 214%.

Michael Miller of PCMag writes that color e-readers will be on the market within the year. The vice president of marketing for E Ink, the company producing the product that made the screens on e-reader comfortable acceptable,  estimates that 5 million e-book readers were sold in 2009 and expects the number to grow to 98 million by 2018.

Kindle opened the door to popular adoption of eBook; the Apple iPad as well as Barnes and Noble’s Nook  are creating a  great deal of excitement. Over coming months, 52 new eBook readers are expected to be introduced, but perhaps even more significant is the spread of eBooks into iPhones, BlackBerries, and other smart phones.  Increasingly finding new readers means having your books in electronic form. What is considered an eBook is changing, too, with some major publishers introducing enhanced eBooks to take advantage of the audio and visual capabilities of tablet readers like the iPad.

Okay, I’m interested. I don’t think that a Santa Monica PD police procedural is all that important and I don’t see that it has long “legs”, but I would be interested in hearing what you think, and the costs.

    Thanks for your time,

Because we write about the travel industry in several of our own books, I track it and am thus aware that local travel is one of the few types of travel that is up in this economy. This makes books that support local travel topical. A few suggestions I have is to first think about distribution – how beyond bookstores – can this book be distributed. Second is content and format. Much innovation is underway and I suggest you study other local study guides and develop checklists of what you like and don’t like.

If at any point, you wish a phone or online consultation, my contact information is on the site. Wishing you good speed with this project.
